Peter Helmer
Peter has been practising meditation for over twenty years and has facilitated and taught groups and individuals for over a decade. Originally a musician and actor, Peter worked for many years in that field before going on to pursue his burning interest in the spiritual search. He describes a decade of insights , bliss and chaos during his search ,that at its heart had an undeniable logic, flying by the seat of his pants and having everything he thought important dashed into the ground; before coming into a more surrendered state of being ,that he would describe as home , but as he puts it " The nomadic sense of home, ...Right here"!

Peter has received instruction from a wealth of teachers from various traditions including Dzogchen, Gnosticism, adviata vedanta and western non duality and continues to sit with favoured teachers and teachings, both alive and passed , all of which he feels eternally grateful for.

"I feel there is no end to this , no arriving on this path, I find this moment always new, moment to moment, no longer needing to know what I am or what this is , I have no idea of that. Free from the question I am free to dance in the unknowing and explore, and this includes the daily life of work, responsibility, personhood with its ups and downs, washing up, sadness, anger, joy, gain and loss, identifying with mood, remembering, re awakening , tax, debt, relationship and having a dog!"
Peter approaches his teaching as a rational present moment exploration of what we are in any given moment as our most intimate sense of self, prior to all assumptions and labels .To quote a beloved teacher "who am I as my deepest knowing".
Peter works both privately at " Metropolitan monk" and within the NHS as a mindfulness practitioner providing groups and one to one support for staff.. He also facilitates mindfulness groups for the charity ”Build on belief”, a charity working with clients in recovery from drug and alcohol issues.
Peter worked for eight years within the NHS addictions services at "The club drug clinic " providing support and mindfulness training for clients.
He hit upon the idea of “metropolitan Monk “ in response to his own experience of the spiritual search; which after looking further afield, led him back to where it began .. The metropolis of London ! "Awakening to your true self is not out there in some distant future , it is right here , whatever your expirience is in this moment , you're looking from eternity" !
